Georgia freshman Céleste Dao was named the SEC Freshman of the Week for women’s golf on Wednesday, a day after she claimed medalist honors at The Gold Rush.
Dao shot 7-under 209 at Old Ranch Country Club in Seal Beach, Calif., equaling the sixth-best tournament score in school history. She posted career-best scores in each round of the tournament. Dao’s best score prior to this week was an even-par 72. She shot 1-under 71 in the first round, 2-under 70 in the second round and 4-under 68 in the final round.
Dao moved atop the individual leaderboard during the second round on Monday. Yesterday, she covered the front nine of the final round at 6-under to gain further distance on the field.
The Bulldogs captured the team title at the Gold Rush by shooting 1-under 863, 23 shots better than any other team in the field.
Georgia will return to action next weekend when the Bulldogs travel to Hilton Head, S.C., to compete in the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate.
