The Georgia women’s tennis team are on the road today versus Clemson. The No.6 Bulldogs match versus the Tigers will begin at 2:30 p.m. ET this afternoon at the Hoke Sloan Tennis Center.
 
“We just qualified for the national indoors so Clemson is going to be another good road match against a good team that will get us prepared for playing on the road,” Georgia head coach Jeff Wallace said. “We are looking forward to some more aggressive doubles and doing what we know we can do in singles, get out there and really compete.”
 
 
The Bulldogs (2-0) are coming off two wins against New Mexico and Illinois at home in the ITA Kick-Off Weekend that secured Georgia’s spot in the National Team Indoor Championships next weekend in New Haven, Conn.
 
 
Caroline Brinson, Elena Christofi and Kennedy Shaffer each won both their matches last weekend. The freshman from Athens, Greece, No. 23 Christofi, leads the Bulldogs with a 14-3 record while No. 35 Brinson and No. 25 Shaffer follow with 12 and 11 wins, respectively.
 
 
In doubles, Georgia’s tandems of Brinson/Shaffer and Marta Gonzalez/Mariana Gould also swept both their matches in the ITA Kick-Off Weekend. The experienced duo of senior Brinson and junior Shaffer hold an 8-2 record.
 
 
The Tigers (2-2) didn’t fare as well in the ITA Kick-Off Weekend. Clemson dropped matches against Kansas and Virginia Tech in Nashville, Tenn., hosted by No. 9 Vanderbilt. Clemson returns six players from last year’s NCAA Tournament team and has two newcomers. Reigning ACC Freshman of the Year Ayan Broomfield, ranked 66th in ITA singles, plays the No. 1 singles spot for the Tigers and contains a 10-6 record, 2-2 in duals. In doubles, the duo of Broomfield and sophomore Marie-Alexandre Leduc have a 6-2 record and come in ranked 44th.
 
 
The meeting marks the 49th dual match between the two schools, the most Georgia has played against an Atlantic Coast Conference opponent. Every year since 1991, the Bulldogs and the Tigers have played each other at least once with Georgia going 26-3 in that span. The Bulldogs own the overall series record at 29-19.
