The Bulldogs, who wrapped up the Bruin Wave Invitational on Tuesday, will open play at the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate on Friday. The 54-hole event will be contest at Long Cove Club on Hilton Head Island, S.C.
[su_spacer size=”40″] “It’s a true coast-to-coast road trip,” head coach Josh Brewer said Wednesday. “Yesterday, we were standing on the Santa Monica Pier and this afternoon we’ll be able to put our feet in the Atlantic Ocean if we want.”
[su_spacer size=”40″] The Bulldogs traveled from Los Angeles to Hilton Head on Wednesday with a stopover in Atlanta. They will play a practice round on Thursday and compete Friday through Sunday.
[su_spacer size=”40″] Georgia will make one change to its playing five from California, with junior Manuela Carbajo Ré subbing in for Mary Ellen Shuman. Juniors Harang Lee and Sylvie Brick, sophomore Sammi Lee and freshman Isabella Skinner round out the lineup.
[su_spacer size=”40″] Sammi Lee was Georgia’s top individual finisher at the Bruin Wave Invitational, tying for 40th.
[su_spacer size=”40″] “I’m really excited to get another chance to tee it up so soon,” Lee said. “I definitely feel like I’m playing better and things are coming together. I think playing again right away will be good for me, and I’m looking forward to posting some really good scores this weekend.”
[su_spacer size=”40″] The stacked 17-team field features seven top-10 and 12 top-20 teams, including No. 2 South Carolina, No. 3 Southern Cal, No. 4 Arkansas, No. 6 Duke, No. 8 LSU, No. 9 Mississippi State, No. 10 Virginia, No. 12 Wake Forest, No. 16 Tennessee, No. 17 Vanderbilt, No. 19 Arizona State, No. 20 Furman, Alabama, Auburn, the Bulldogs, Kentucky and North Carolina.
[su_spacer size=”40″] “It’s a great field,” Brewer said. “It’s probably the best field we’ll play in this season other than when we host the Liz Murphey. We have to go out and compete and continue to get better. We have a lot of the season left. This is another opportunity for us to put together three good rounds and gain some momentum as we head into the Liz Murphey.”
[su_spacer size=”40″] The Bulldogs will be paired with Kentucky and North Carolina for Friday’s first round, teeing off from No. 10 beginning at 8:30 a.m. Live scoring throughout the tournament will be available atwww.golfstat.com.
