[su_spacer size=”20″] The Georgia Lady Bulldogs’ 16-game Southeastern Conference schedule was announced by the league office on Thursday evening. Each contest on Georgia’s 2015-16 conference slate will be available on the SEC Network, SEC Network Plus or the ESPN family of networks.
[su_spacer size=”40″] “As always, the SEC will be one of the best and most competitive conferences in the nation,” Georgia head coach Joni Taylor said. “We are excited about this year’s schedule and look forward to seeing all of our Lady Bulldog fans create a great homecourt advantage for our team at Stegeman Coliseum this season.”
[su_spacer size=”40″] [su_spacer size=”40″] Five of the Lady Bulldogs’ conference games were picked for television, including the league-opener at Texas A&M, which will air on the SEC Network on Sunday, Jan. 3. In addition to the matchup against the Aggies, Georgia will be on the SEC Network when it plays at Alabama on Jan. 17 and when it hosts Auburn (Jan. 28) and Florida (Feb. 21). UGA’s contest at Tennessee on Feb. 28 will air on either ESPN2 or ESPNU.
[su_spacer size=”40″] All remaining conference games that were not selected by the SEC Network, ESPN2 or ESPNU, will be available on WatchESPN or SECSports.com via SEC Network Plus. New for the 2015-16 season, the SEC Network will present two nights of whip-around coverage — a live look-in to every women’s basketball game played on Jan. 7 and Feb. 25.
[su_spacer size=”40″] “No other league in the country gets the exposure that we have in the SEC,” Taylor said. “We have passionate fans and it’s great that, whether they are in Stegeman Coliseum or watching on television, they can follow us all season long.”
[su_spacer size=”40″] Following the league-opener at Texas A&M, Georgia will return home for back-to-back games against Missouri (Jan. 7) and Kentucky (Jan. 10), before setting out for trips at Florida (Jan. 14) and Alabama (Jan. 17) the next week.
[su_spacer size=”40″] Three of the Lady Bulldogs’ eight home league contests will come in consecutive games from Jan. 21-Jan. 28 against Mississippi State, LSU and Auburn. Georgia will then close out the month of January on the road at Vanderbilt on Jan. 31.
[su_spacer size=”40″] The month of February features four road trips and three home games for the Lady Bulldogs to conclude the conference slate. Georgia will play at Missouri on Feb. 4 to open the month before returning to Stegeman Coliseum to host Ole Miss on Feb. 7. A matchup at LSU on Feb. 14 sets up a date on the road against last season’s NCAA Runner-Up South Carolina on Feb. 18. The Lady Bulldogs will then host Florida (Feb. 21) and Arkansas (Feb. 25) before wrapping up the SEC slate at Tennessee on Feb. 28.
[su_spacer size=”40″] The Lady Bulldogs return 11 letterwinners, including four senior starters off of last year’s team. Among the returnees is senior Shacobia Barbee, who returns after being named to the 2013-14 All-SEC Second Team. Senior guard and three-year starter Tiaria Griffin also returns to the lineup for her senior campaign, while 2014-15 SEC All-Freshman Team selection Mackenzie Engram will be back for her sophomore season.
[su_spacer size=”40″] Georgia welcomes three talented newcomers — Caliya Robinson, Shanea Armbrister and Amber Skidgel to this year’s squad. Robinson was ranked as a top-50 prospect nationally by three different recruiting services, while Skidgel is set for her freshman season after becoming one the most prolific 3-point shooters in Gwinnett County history. Meanwhile, Armbrister was a two-time NJCAA All-America selection during her career at Darton State.
[su_spacer size=”40″] “We have a great balance of experience to go along with a strong group of newcomers who I think will be key contributors for us,” Taylor stated. “I think our non-conference schedule will provide highly-competitive matchups that will help prepare us as we approach January and the beginning of conference play. It’s always exciting to finalize the schedule and start looking forward to the season.”
[su_spacer size=”40″] The SEC schedule will culminate with the 2016 SEC Tournament, which takes place on Wednesday, March 2 through Sunday, March 6 in Jacksonville, Fla. The SEC Network will televise the first three days of the tournament, while the semifinals will be aired on ESPNU and the championship game on ESPN.
