Caliya Robinson, a junior forward on the Georgia Lady Bulldogs basketball team, has been named one of 10 finalists for the 2018 Katrina McClain Award.
Named for the former Lady Bulldog who was a two-time All-American and 1987 National Player of the Year, the award recognizes America’s top power forward. The winner of the 2018 Katrina McClain Award will be announced at this year’s Final Four.
“Caliya continues to put her name among some of the top players in the nation,” head coach Joni Taylor said. “This is a tremendous honor for her, especially since it is named after one of the greatest Lady Bulldogs of all time. Caliya’s commitment to improving her game has not only helped her individually but has also been a key part in the success our team has enjoyed so far this season.”
Robinson currently leads the SEC and ranks fifth nationally in blocked shots with 75. The Marietta, Ga., native has scored in double figures in all but two league contests this year and has recorded four double-doubles in the past seven games. Robinson owns the top single-game blocked shot performance and the second-best rebounding game this year in the league when she registered 19 boards and eight blocks at Texas A&M.
This is just the latest honor for Robinson. She placed on the SEC All-Freshman Team in her first year in Athens, before being named to the league’s All-Defensive Team in 2017. Robinson was also added to the Naismith National Player of the Year Watch List earlier this fall.
