Caliya Robinson, a junior forward on the Georgia women’s basketball team, has been named to the inaugural Katrina McClain Award watch list, putting her name among the top-20 power forwards in the country.
Named for Georgia great Katrina McClain, a two-time All-American, the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association National Player of the Year in 1987 and three-time Olympian, this honor is in its first year of existence.
The selection committee for the Katrina McClain Award is composed of top women’s college basketball personnel including media members, head coaches, sports information directors and Hall of Famers. In March, they will narrow the list down to five finalists before announcing the winner during the 2018 NCAA Women’s Final Four.
This is the second preseason honor for Robinson, who was tabbed to the All-SEC second team by league coaches. The Marietta, Georgia native is entering her junior season and is among the SEC’s best in several statistical categories. She ranks in the top-10 of the SEC’s returning scorers and rebounders and finished third in the league in blocked shots a season ago.
Robinson begins the 2017-18 campaign looking to build on a strong finish last year, when she averaged close to 16 points and over eight rebounds through the final 10 games.
The Lady Bulldogs open the season this Sunday against Wofford in the newly-renovated Stegeman Coliseum. Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. ET. Tickets can be purchased in advance by CLICK HERE or by calling the UGA Athletic Association Ticket Office at 877-542-1231.
