Georgia Lady Bulldogs basketball junior forward Caliya Robinson has been named the Southeastern Conference Player of the Week, while freshman guard Gabby Connally has been tabbed the league’s Freshman of the Week, the conference office announced on Tuesday.

The duo has helped guide the Lady Bulldogs to a 16-2 start this season, including a 4-1 record in SEC play. Georgia has already matched last season’s win total with the team’s only two losses coming to top-5 teams Mississippi State and Texas. This past week, Georgia won its fourth game in a row by taking down Arkansas and No. 16 Texas A&M.

“Caliya and Gabby were absolutely phenomenal this week and are very deserving of these honors,” head coach Joni Taylor said. “Caliya has scored in double figures in every SEC game we have played, including two double-doubles this week. What she has done speaks volumes to how hard she continues to work to get better and help our team. What a performance by Gabby on Sunday! Gabby has gotten better every game she has played and for her to have her coming out party in front of her family and friends was an exciting moment for us all. Again, I am every happy for these two and pleased with how our team continues to get better each and every day.”
 
 

 
 
This is the fifth SEC weekly honor in Robinson’s career and first of the year. The Marietta native averaged 19.5 points and 15.5 rebounds per game over the last two contests. Her 19 rebounds against the Aggies are tied for the second-most by any league player this season and are the sixth-most for a Georgia player in school history.

Robinson, the SEC’s blocked shots leader this season, also totaled 13 blocks for the week, including eight at Texas A&M. The eight-block performance is the best for an SEC player during the 2017-18 campaign.

Connally, a native of San Antonio, Texas, had an impressive homecoming on Sunday. After setting a career-high with 13 points against Arkansas, Connally scored a new career-best 37 points in College Station. The 37 points are the most by a Georgia freshman against an SEC foe and tied for the third-highest single-game freshman performance in school history behind only Coco Miller and Janet Harris.

Georgia’s freshman guard scored 15 of her points in the overtime period with an 11-of-12 mark from the free-throw line. For the week, Connally finished with a 20-for-22 clip from the charity stripe and shot over 50-percent from the field.
