Opening Tip — Five Things To Know
– Georgia and Georgia Tech meet for the 38th time in history on Sunday, with the Lady Bulldogs owning a 33-4 series advantage. UGA is 14-0 vs. Georgia Tech in Athens and has won four-straight games overall vs. the Yellow Jackets.
– Four Lady Bulldogs are averaging in double figures this season. Senior guard Tiaria Griffin leads the way with her 13.5 points per game, while Merritt Hempe and Shacobia Barbee are each averaging 11.5 ppg. Mackenzie Engram is averaging 11.0 ppg.
– Through two games this season, Georgia leads the Southeastern Conference in assist/turnover ratio (1.6), averaging 16.5 assists and just 10.5 turnovers. The Lady Bulldogs’ 33 total assists through two games is the fifth-best total in the league.
– Playing with a short bench on Wednesday night against No. 23 Michigan State, junior forward Halle Washington, who was one of only eight Lady Bulldogs to enter the game, made the most of her time. Washington recorded a career-high 13 points in 25 minutes of action.
– The Joni Taylor era of Lady Bulldog basketball tipped off a week ago against Stetson. The Lady Bulldogs won the game, 76-55, led by Shacobia Barbee’s triple-double — only the third in school history.

Scouting Georgia Tech
– The Yellow Jackets enter Sunday’s game with a perfect 3-0 record, registering victories against Loyola Chicago, St. Francis Brooklyn and Southeastern Louisiana by an average margin of 32.7 points per game. Aaliyah Whiteside leads the team in scoring, averaging 21.3 points per game to go along with 5.7 rebounds per game. Georgia Tech owns a +21.0 rebounding edge in the first three games of the season. Head Coach Machelle Joseph is in her 13th season as the leader of the Yellow Jackets. This year’s Georgia Tech team features eight returning letterwinners and four returning starters off of last year’s team that went 19-15.

Last Time Out
– A short-handed Georgia team fell to No. 23 Michigan State, 66-45, Wednesday night in East Lansing, Mich. The Lady Bulldogs fell behind, but overcame a 27-7 first-quarter deficit to go on a 14-0 run in the second quarter and put the score at 33-23 at the half. Michigan State hit three of their first five shots and outscored Georgia, 12-7, to open the third period and extend the lead to 45-30. The Lady Bulldogs could not recover down the stretch as MSU held on for the 66-45 win. Georgia played just eight players in the game, with junior forward Halle Washington coming off the bench to score a career-high 13 points.

Ready For Tech
– The first game between Georgia and Georgia Tech took place on Jan. 25, 1975. The Lady Bulldogs won the first 24 games in the series from 1975-2001. The Yellow Jackets won their first game against Georgia on Dec. 27, 2002 and since that time the Lady Bulldogs are 9-3 against Georgia Tech. Georgia has won four-straight and is 14-0 at home in the series against Georgia Tech.

Barbee Is Back
– After missing the last 10 games of the 2014-15 season due to an injury, Georgia senior guard Shacobia Barbee has made the most of her return to the lineup. Barbee recorded the program’s third triple-double — 10 points, 13 rebounds and 10 assists vs. Stetson — to become just the third Lady Bulldog all-time (Teresa Edwards and Tracy Henderson) to record a triple double. The preseason All-SEC second team selection is averaging 11.5 ppg to go along with 9.0 rebounds per contest.

Griffin Leading The Lady Bulldogs
– Senior guard Tiara Griffin is leading Georgia in scoring this season, averaging 13.5 ppg. Griffin, who needs just three points to reach 900 in her career, scored 21 points in the season opener vs. Stetson, finishing just two points shy of her career high. Griffin is currently tied for eighth-place for career 3-point field goals made with 149 career treys.

Books And Basketball For Butler
– Georgia senior point guard Marjorie Butler is making a name for herself both on and off the court. Butler, who entered college with over 50 hours of college credits, is currently going through medical school interviews and has already been accepted by several Universities. The Knoxville, Tenn., native already has a degree in exercise science and will graduate with a second degree in biology.

Win No. 900 For Georgia Basketball
– Not only was last Sunday’s win against Stetson the first of the Joni Taylor era, it was also the 900th victory in program history. Georgia is now one of 13 programs in NCAA Division I women’s basketball to reach 900 wins or more. The Lady Bulldogs enter play this week against Georgia Tech with a 900-385 mark in 43 years as a program.
