Opening Tip – Notes To Know Heading Into Tuesday
Georgia looks to keep its unbeaten record intact when the Furman Paladins visit Stegeman Coliseum Thursday evening for a 7 p.m. ET tip on SEC Network +.
Thursday’s contest marks the seventh-straight year these two teams have met. The Lady Bulldogs lead the all-time series 13-0 with the first game in the series dating back to 1975.
Georgia’s 6-0 start is the best of the Joni Taylor era. The Lady Bulldogs started 5-1 in Taylor’s first season en route to an NCAA Tournament berth.
The Lady Bulldogs have played well defensively over the last stretch of games, holding BYU to its season-low point total and field-goal percentage (35.1 percent) while Tennessee Tech scored just 48 points Monday night. Under Coach Taylor, Georgia is now 16-0 when holding an opponent at or below 50 points.
With her performance on Monday, junior Caliya Robinson went over 400 rebounds and 100 assists in her career. Robinson is now one of just eight active players in the SEC to have over 500 career points, 400 career rebounds, and 100 career assists. The Preseason All-SEC selection was named to the Katrina McClain Award Watch List for the top power forward in the nation earlier this year. On Wednesday, Robinson was named to the Citizen Naismith National Player of the Year Watch List.
Freshman guard Maya Caldwell has been on a hot streak at Stegeman Coliseum. Caldwell scored 11 points against Western Carolina before scoring 12 against Tennessee Tech. Over the last two home games, Caldwell has hit 59 percent (10-of-17) of her shots and totaled seven rebounds.
