Shacobia Barbee, who enters her senior season on the Georgia Lady Bulldogs basketball team, was named to the 2015-16 Preseason All-SEC Second Team as voted on by league coaches, the conference office announced on Tuesday.
[su_spacer size=”40″] This is the third-straight year Barbee has been selected a Preseason All-SEC Second Team member. She earned the honor at the beginning of the 2014-15 campaign, before suffering a season-ending injury this past January.
[su_spacer size=”40″] “Shacobia has worked so hard to battle back from her injury,” head coach Joni Taylor said. “She is a consistent player who understands the high expectations we have as a program, and I am proud of the way she has handled coming back. She has been a leader for us and I look forward to seeing even more production as she goes into her senior year.”
[su_spacer size=”40″] The Murfreesboro, Tenn., native enters her senior campaign with 863 career points, just 147 shy of reaching the 1,000-point mark. Prior to her injury on Jan. 25 vs. Tennessee last season, Barbee ranked among SEC statistical leaders in scoring (No. 14 at 11.6 ppg), rebounding (No. 11 at 7.0 rpg), steals (No. 4 at 2.4 spy) and assists (No. 15 at 3.0 apg). She enters 2015-16 as the team’s leading returning scorer from a season ago when she averaged 11.6 points per game.
[su_spacer size=”40″] Tuesday’s announcement by the league office adds to a long list of accolades for the 5-foot-10 guard/forward. Barbee was named Second-Team All-SEC at the conclusion of the 2013-14 season and placed on the SEC All-Defensive Team during both her freshman and sophomore seasons.
