Georgia’s Bailey Tardy dropped a 2-and-1 decision to Anna Newell in the round of 16 of the U.S. Women’s Amateur on Thursday afternoon.

Tardy won No. 12, but Newell, an All-American at Tennessee last season, won No. 16 to regain a 2-up edge. After halving No. 17, Newell possessed an insurmountable lead.

Green moved to 2-up at the turn by winning No. 7 and No. 9. Tardy took No. 10, No. 11 and No. 12 to swing the scoreboard to a 1-up edge in her favor. A Green birdie at No. 16 knotted the score, and both golfers parred No. 17 and No. 18 to send match to extra holes. Tardy moved to the round of 16 when Green bogeyed No. 19.
[su_spacer size=”40″] Tardy will now begin classes at Georgia next Monday and will arrive on campus ranked in the top-25 of the World Amateur Golf Rankings. She is No. 22 in this week’s ledger and may climb higher after the U.S. Am results are factored in.
