Georgia’s Bailey Tardy has been named SEC Freshman of the Week for women’s golf following her fifth-place individual finish at the Lady Puerto Rico Classic on Tuesday. Tardy also helped Georgia capture the team title in Puerto Rico.
The Lady Puerto Rico Classic featured four top-10 and seven top-25 teams.
Tardy, a Peachtree Corners, Ga., native and graduate of Norcross High School, carded rounds of 68-72-75 to finish at 1-under 215. She shot under-par for the fourth consecutive team tournament and is a combined 15-under in those events. Tardy also notched her 10th and 11th par-or-better efforts in 16 rounds this season, including her sixth tally in the 60s.
Georgia is now No. 5 and in both the Golfstat and Golfweek national rankings.
In the Golfstat individual rankings, Tardy is No. 4, Harang Lee is No. 12,Manuela Carbajo Ré is No. 64, Rinko Mitsunaga is No. 67 and Jillian Hollis is No. 85.
In the Golfweek/Sagarin Performance Index, Lee is No. 5, Tardy is No. 7, Hollis is No. 47, Carbajo Ré is No. 57 and Mitsunaga is No. 71.
Georgia will return to action in two weeks when the Bulldogs travel to the Darius Rucker Intecollegiate in Hilton Head, S.C., on March 4-6.
