Jillian Hollis finished ninth individually to lead the No. 9 Georgia women’s golf team at the ANNIKA Intercollegiate presented by 3M, which wrapped up on Tuesday. Hollis shot 2- under 214 over the 54 holes at Olympic Hills Golf Club, while the Bulldogs placed 11th in the team field.

“It was a great tournament for Jillian,” head coach Josh Brewer said. “I know I’ve said the same thing about her for over two years, but Jillian works hard and goes about her golf like a professional. It’s great to see her rewarded for her effort and belief in herself.”

Hollis, a junior and two-time All-American from Rocky River, Ohio, posted her third consecutive par-or-better score in the tourney, an even-par 72. That was the Bulldogs’ low loop on the day. Georgia also counted a 75 from Gabriela Coello, a 76 from Rinko Mitsunaga and a 77 from Isabella Skinner.

The Bulldogs teed off from No. 10 on Tuesday, and Hollis started on a blistering pace. She birdied No. 11, posted an eagle-3 at No. 14 and birdied No. 15 to move to 4-under through five holes. Thereafter, bogeys at No. 17, No. 3, No. 4 and No. 6 gradually brought her back to even.

No. 8 Arkansas captured the team title after finishing at 848, 12 shots better than No. 1 UCLA. Maria Fassi completed the sweep for the Razorbacks by shooting 10-under to earn medalist honors.

For the Bulldogs, Hollis tied for ninth at 2-under 214, Mitsunaga tied for 36th at 225, Coello tied for 43rd at 203, Skinner tied for 46th at 232 and Tardy tied for 50th at 235.

The event featured nine of the top-13 teams in Golfweek’s preseason rankings.

“We’ll go back and figure out what we need to work on,” Brewer said. “We’ll try to figure out what didn’t translate from qualifying to tournament golf because we played really well in qualifying. We believe in ourselves, and I think this is just a blip. We’ll work hard and get ready to go to Stanford.”

Georgia will return to action in two weeks when they compete in the Stanford Intercollegiate at Poppy Hills Golf Club in People Beach, Calif., on Oct. 16-18.
