The Georgia women’s golf team will wrap up the fall portion of its 2017-18 schedule this weekend by competing in the Ladies Fall Intercollegiate Invitational at the Atlanta Athletic Club in John’s Creek, GA. All eight members of the Bulldogs’ roster will compete in the event, which provided a unique opportunity to finalize Georgia’s playing five for the event.

The Bulldogs didn’t set their lineup following Thursday’s practice round. The top-three positions were determined before the team departed Athens, with Jillian Hollis, Paula Neira Garcia and Rinko Mitsunaga occupying Nos. 1-3, respectively. The final two spots went to Gabriela Coello and Isabella Skinner, who supplied the low scores among the remainder of the roster during the practice round.

“First, it allowed us a chance to see who can play well on that course,” Brewer said. “Second, we’ve had people play well at home (in qualifying) and maybe not translate perfectly in a tournament. This allowed us to have ‘qualifying’ away from a normal golf course for us. And third, it’s simply scheduling and getting home from Stanford and people coming back from (LPGA) Q school. We really did not have the time on Monday or mother nature with the rain. Everyone’s playing in the event. Let’s tee it up and control your own destiny, kind of like doing a Monday qualifier for a Tour event.”

The tournament field features the Bulldogs competing against Augusta, Coastal Carolina, Dartmouth, East Carolina, Georgia State, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kennesaw State, Louisville and Minnesota.

Georgia, a consensus preseason top-10 pick, will be at full strength this weekend. The Bulldogs played without two of three fall events without a full lineup as returning All-Americans Jillian Hollis, Rinko Mitsunaga and Bailey Tardy competed in LPGA Q-School.

“It’s like the old quote (from The Blue Brothers), ‘it’s nice to have the band back together.'” Brewer joked. “It actually feels like our season is starting now that we have everyone together for four days and get to hang out. It feels like our fall season is starting, although it’s ending.”

Half of the Georgia roster grew up relatively close to the Athletic Club. It is the home course for Tardy. Skinner is from Cumming, Mitsunaga is from Roswell and freshman Elisa Yang is from Norcross.

“This will be a homecoming for our Georgia kids,” Brewer said. “They all grew up around this area and have played here. It is kind of unique for us in our sport. In other sports, coaches can schedule a game to go to a student-athlete’s hometown. This one just happens to fit for us. It’s a club that’s really supported women’s golf since I’ve arrived at Georgia and a chance to come here and play in front of a group that is a big resource for our program.”
