TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Jillian Hollis wrapped up the NCAA Tallahassee Regional with a 7-under 209 tally to tie for ninth place individually and earn an individual spot in the field for the NCAA Women’s Golf Championships. Georgia closed out with a 1-under 287 on Wednesday to complete the tournament at 2-over 866. The Bulldogs finished in eighth place, two spots off advancing to the NCAAs.
 
 
“When your season ends, it’s hard,” Brewer said. “We gave it everything we had. Hats off to the six schools who are going to get out of here. Sometimes you can play pretty well and have an empty feeling in your stomach.”
 
 
The top-six teams and the three low individuals not on those teams will compete in the NCAA Championships in Stillwater, Okla., beginning on May 18. Hollis was the second-best individual not on an advancing team.
 
 
“Jillian should get to compete for a national title because I think she’s one of the five or 10 best amateurs in the world,” Brewer said. “She deserves that stage.”
 
 
Rinko Mitsunaga led the Bulldogs on Wednesday with a 4-under 68. Georgia also counted a trio of 73s from Hollis, Paula Neira Garcia and Isabella Skinner.
 
 
“I’m proud of them because they all fought to the very end,” Brewer said. “Bella made a long putt to birdie, Jillian made a huge putt to qualify herself for the national championship, and we tied our low round of the postseason.”
 
 
Overall, Mitsunaga finished 13th at 5-under 211, one shot of also qualifying for the NCAAs individually. That bettered her career-low 54-hole score of 4-under 212 at the 2016 Annika Intercollegiate.
 
 
In addition, Neira Garcia tied for 54th at 224, Skinner tied for 59th at 225 and Gabriela Coello tied for 79th at 230.
 
 
Mitsunaga spent almost all of her day in red numbers. She birdied No. 1 but posted her only bogeys of the round on No. 5 and No. 6. She then notched five birdies in a six-hole span between Nos. 8-13, with a par on No. 11 breaking the streak.
 
 
“I started off with a birdie,” Mitsunaga said. “I made about a 10 footer. I made a few bogeys, but then I had a really good opportunity on 8 and I took it. From there, it kind of took off. I knew that our team needed a kickstart. Everyone played really well out there. Everyone fought really hard, just like we have been all spring since Long Beach. I’m really proud of myself and our whole team.”
 
 
Skinner closed her collegiate career with a 35-foot birdie putt on No. 18.
 
 
“You just have to think there are bigger things then golf happening when you see a senior roll in a 35-foot putt on the last hole of their collegiate career,” Brewer said. “It was pretty cool. For all she’s been through, playing one event as a junior and playing every tournament as senior, it was neat. I’m glad she went ahead and made it because I don’t know if she could’ve made a tap-in. She was balling, and I was too.”
 
 
Hollis will compete individually at the NCAA Championships in Stillwater, Okla., beginning on May 18. The first three days will feature 24 teams and 12 individuals. Following the third round, the field will be cut to 15 teams and the low nine individuals not on those 15 teams. The individual national champion will be determined following the fourth round.
 
 
“I’m really excited,” Hollis said. “I am bummed that our team didn’t make it, but I am excited to go. I just need to keep playing my game and be positive and everything will work out.”
