Georgia golfer Sylvie Brick received the female “Peach of an Athlete Award” from the Atlanta Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America at the organization’s annual Role Model Banquet on Tuesday evening.
 
 
Brick, a senior from Frankfort, Ill., has been a standout for the Bulldogs in all facets of being a student-athlete.
 
 
Most notably, she was selected to represent Southeastern Conference female student-athletes for all sports and schools at the 2015 NCAA Leadership Forum.
 
 
Last season, Brick competed in six tournaments for the Bulldogs and registered counting scores in 75 percent of her 12 rounds. She played a key role in Georgia’s runner-up finish at the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic and also posted her first collegiate top-10 finish at Seton Hall’s Pirate Invitational.
 
 
In the classroom, Brick has been selected to the National Society of Collegiate Scholars. A computer science major and statistics minor, Brick received the women’s golf team’s Terri Moody Academic Achievement Award in 2013 and 2014.
 
 
Brick is currently president of UGA’s Student-Athletic Advisory Committee (SAAC). She has not only participated in numerous community service activities but also spearheaded several efforts.
 
 
Brick coordinated the women’s golf team’s participation at the Halloween Carnival at Hope Haven, a private non-profit corporation whose primary purpose is to provide services for individuals with developmental disabilities who reside in the Athens-Clarke and surrounding counties; organized the team’s building of bookshelves as part of the Family Literacy Project of Athens; and served a key role in the production of the UGA SAAC’s production of a “No More” public service announcement against domestic violence and sexual assault.
 
 
In addition, Brick has assisted with: the UGA Special Olympics Prom; Home Runs for Hometown Rivals, a Special Olympics softball game at UGA’s Foley Field; the UGA Girls Golf Day; Girl Power Day at Georgia women’s basketball games; UGA Athletic Association’s Hunger Bowl;
UGA SAAC’s Valentine fundraiser for Relay for Life.
 
 
“As a coach, you try to preach to your student-athletes to take advantage of all their opportunities,” head coach Josh Brewer said. “Sylvie has used her opportunities as a UGA student-athlete to its full benefit. She ran with it. Sylvie is our SAAC president. She had an ambition to do that and made it a goal. She has led community outreach not only for women’s golf but for all UGA student-athletes. She was the SEC representative – from the entire population of female student-athletes in the SEC – at the NCAA Leadership Forum. That’s a huge honor. She has embraced it. Sylvie came here with a mission and a goal to make sure she was prepared for life after college, and she’s done just that.
 
 
“As a program, we benefit greatly from that,” Brewer continued. “She is a big part of the season we are having. Last season, she got a chance to play and we needed that maturity. It hasn’t stopped. I know she wishes her senior year athletically would have gone differently, but Sylvie knows she’s a big part of the reason we’re top-5 in the country. She’s going to be a hard one for this program to replace.”
 
 
All told, the Role Model Banquet Honors a professional individual, a professional athlete and 10 college athletes. Brick was the overall female “Peach of an Athlete,” while Georgia swimmer Ty Stewart and football player Malcolm Mitchell were among the five male student-athletes recognized.
