“All we wanted was a chance to win or finish two-three against a very good field out here,” head coach Josh Brewer said. “We have that chance tomorrow, and we haven’t played our best golf the past two days. Hopefully, tomorrow we’ll have our best day of the week and finish our fall on a positive note.”
The Bulldogs’ other counting scores came from Rinko Mitsunaga (71), Harang Lee (73) and Jillian Hollis (74).
On the individual leaderboard, Carbajo Ré and Mitsunaga are tied for eighth place at even-par 142, while Hollis and Lee are both tied for 26th at 147 and Isabella Skinner is tied for 57th at 151. Marissa Chow from Pepperdine is the individual leader at 6-under 136.
No. 9 Stanford is three shots ahead of No. 12 UCLA on the team leaderboard. Rounding out the top-10 teams are No. 1 Southern Cal at 577, the Bulldogs at 578, No. 3 Northwestern and UC Davis at 579, No. 21 Washington at 583, Cal at 584, No. 4 Arizona at 590 and No. 14 Iowa State at 594.
Carbajo Ré became the fifth Georgia golfer to break 70 this season, joining Hollis, Lee, Mitsunaga and Bailey Tardy.
“Hopefully we can add a sixth tomorrow,” Brewer said.
Carbajo Ré bounced back from her only mistake of the day in impressive fashion. The senior opened with five straight pars before a double-bogey at No. 6. She then notched birdies at No. 7, No. 8, No. 10 and No. 12 to move to 2-under and wrapped up her loop with six consecutive pars.
“Manuela said she hit it really solid all day,” Brewer said. “It seemed like she had a bunch of 15-20 foot birdie putts. She drove two par-5s in two and two-putted for birdies there. She only made one bad decision all day and it really cost her. But I have to give her credit for not letting it get to her. She bounced back to go birdie, birdie, par, birdie, par, birdie over her six holes. That tells you she was very confident in her game.”
Georgia will be paired with Northwestern and UC Davis on Tuesday, teeing off beginning at 11:15 am ET.
