For the eighth-straight season, Georgia plays host to three schools in one of the 16 first and second round campus sites for the NCAA Tournament. Joining the seventh-seeded Bulldogs (15-6) this weekend are No. 37 Arizona State, No. 29 Wake Forest, and Georgia State.
To open play, the Sun Devils (16-7) and Demon Deacons (19-13) face off Friday at 12 p.m., followed by the in-state matchup of the Bulldogs and the Panthers (12-14) at 3 p.m. The winners of Friday’s matches compete Saturday at 3 p.m. with the victor advancing to the round of 16 held on Wake Forest’s campus in Winston-Salem, N.C., starting May 17th.
“It’s always an honor to play at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex,” Georgia head coach Jeff Wallace said. “It is an amazing complex and we have great fans so we’re going to try to take advantage of that opportunity. We’ve got some great teams coming here, and they’re going to be ready too, so it should be a good one.”
Georgia, appearing in its 32nd consecutive NCAA Tournament, has now hosted the first and second round 17 times, holding a perfect 32-0 record at home. In all, the Bulldogs are 36-2 in the first two rounds with the last loss occurring in 2010.
Georgia finished the 2017-18 regular season at 15-6, with the only dropped matches coming against teams ranked ahead of the Bulldogs. The Bulldogs are an undefeated 16-0 all-time against Georgia State, however, this marks the first postseason meeting. Against potential opponents Arizona State and Wake Forest, Georgia is 3-1 and 6-3, respectively.
Arizona State and Wake Forest each earned at-large bids into the NCAA Tournament, while Georgia State obtained an automatic bid by winning the Sun Belt Conference Tournament. The Sun Devils lost in the semifinals of the Pac-12 Tournament to No. 14 UCLA, while the Demon Deacons fell in the ACC Championship to top-ranked UNC.
Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for children, students, and seniors and can be purchased at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex beginning one hour before the match each day.
