The No. 3 Georgia women’s tennis team has earned a No. 5 seed in the NCAA Tournament and has been selected as one of 16 host sites for the first and second round.

 
South Carolina State, No. 29 North Carolina State and No. 40 Oregon will travel to Athens for the first two rounds of play. The Bulldogs (17-5, 11-2 SEC) will play the Bulldogs of South Carolina State in the first round on Saturday, May 13, at 12 p.m. The winner of that contest will face the winner of that morning’s match between the Ducks and Wolfpack on Sunday, May 14, at 2 p.m.
 
 
“It is always a fun part of the year for us, we are in the middle of final exams and it is nice to take a break and see these selections,” Georgia head coach Jeff Wallace said. “We are super excited and back in the tournament as a No. 5 seed. We are hosting and have some great teams coming in so we have to research them and prepare.”
 
 
Georgia, appearing in its 31st consecutive NCAA Tournament, has faced South Carolina State twice in the NCAA Tournament and is 2-0 in those matches. The Bulldogs have never played the Wolfpack or the Ducks in the regular season or postseason play.
 
 
South Carolina State (9-10, 5-0) earned its bid into the NCAA Tournament by way of winning the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Championship. North Carolina State (18-10, 7-7) lost in the second round of the ACC Tournament, while the Ducks fell in the semifinals to Stanford in the first ever Pac 12 Team Championships. The Bulldogs have yet to lose a match this season to teams ranked outside of the top 25.
 
 
“It is important to take the regular season and sort of set it aside,” Wallace added. “We did some great things, but now it is time for the NCAA Tournament. The round of 16 is coming to Athens as well so it is a special time for us and we are eager to get going.”
 
 
Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for children and students and can be purchased at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex beginning one hour before the match each day.
 
 
Georgia’s men’s squad, the 13th seed, will also play host to a NCAA regional, welcoming Duke, Florida A&M and South Florida. The men’s bracket will begin with two matches on Friday and conclude on Saturday.
 
 
Georgia will also host the later rounds of the NCAA Championships and the individual single and doubles tournaments, which will be held May 18-29. Since moving to the current format in 1999, the Bulldogs have hosted the first and second round 16 times including seven straight.
