The Georgia women’s tennis team remained undefeated as their rackets silenced their Clemson adversary 7-0 on Saturday at the Hoke Sloan Tennis Center. The sixth-ranked Bulldogs powered past the Tigers by taking all the singles matches and the doubles point.
 
“It was a well played match today by the Dawgs,” Georgia head coach Jeff Wallace said. “It was great to get our first road win of the season. Our team is excited about the upcoming national indoors.”
 
 
In doubles play, Ellen Perez and Elena Christofi defeated Clemson’s duo of Marie-Alexandre Leduc and Fernanda Navarro 6-3, 6-3 on court one. Georgia’s tandem of Marta Gonzalez and Mariana Gould clinched the doubles point on the No. 3 court with a 6-3, 6-3 victory over the Tigers’ Ayan Broomfield and Constanza Gorces squad. The Gonzalez/Gould squad improved to 7-1 together, 3-0 in duals.
 
 
In singles, 35th-ranked Caroline Brinson, playing No. 4, breezed past Sydney Riley 6-2, 6-1 for the first singles point. Perez followed with a 6-3, 6-2 win over No. 84 Leduc on court No. 1. The win marked Perez’s first decision this season, while Brinson’s fourth-straight singles victory pushed her to a 13-4 record.
 
 
Junior Kennedy Shaffer, ranked 25th, defeated Navarro 6-1, 6-4 to give Georgia a commanding 4-0 lead. Shaffer moved to 12-4 and 3-0 in dual matches.
 
 
The Court Two matchup contained the highest ranked players from their respected teams, No. 23 Elena Christofi of Georgia and No. 40 Broomfield of Clemson. The Georgia freshman, Christofi, out-battled the reigning Atlantic Coast Conference freshman of the year, Broomfield, 6-4, 6-2. Christofi now holds a team-best 15-3 record.
 
 
In the final singles matches of the day, Gonzalez and Gould took wins over Constanza Gorches and Ally Miller-Krasilnikov, respectively, to close out the 7-0 Bulldogs’ victory.
 
 
Georgia will be back in action next week in the ITA National Team Indoors, hosted by Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut.
