Georgia freshman Katarina Jokic and sophomore Marta Gonzalez carry their 10-1 singles record to Tuesday’s opening round of qualifying for the ITA/Riviera All-American Championships in Pacific Palisades, California.

 
Jokic and Gonzales won three matches apiece in prequalifying this past weekend to earn a spot in the 32-player qualifying draw. They will have to win three more matches to advance to the main draw. The same goes for the Georgia duo of Jokic and Mariana Gould as they made it through the doubles prequalifying to improve their record to 6-0.
 
 
Action gets underway Tuesday with a round of doubles followed by two rounds of singles. The Gould-Jokic tandem will face the top seed in 20th-ranked Ayan Broomfield and Gabby Andrews of UCLA. They are a new team following Broomfield’s transfer from Clemson.
 
 
Meanwhile, in singles, Gonzalez, who is ranked No. 105, will battle Stanford sophomore Emma Higuchi who is ranked No. 44. Jokic takes on another freshman in North Carolina’s Alle Sanford, and she is ranked the No. 6 freshman/newcomer in the nation. Like Jokic, she owns an impressive 10-1 record this fall. Last month, Sanford claimed the Oracle/ITA Masters singles title including beating the defending champion and top-ranked player in Ena Shibahara (UCLA).
 
 
The main draw of this event will be Oct. 5-8. Based on last year’s results and ITA preseason rankings, Georgia sophomore Elena Christofi will be competing in the singles and doubles main draw. Christofi is currently ranked No. 10 nationally in singles. She has a singles record of 6-2 and will pair with freshman Morgan Coppoc in doubles. They are ranked No. 34 with a 4-2 record.
