Three singles players and two doubles teams from the UGA women’s tennis team earned NCAA Individual bids.

 
In the 64-player singles bracket, Ellen Perez is grouped among the middle seeds (9-16), while Elena Christofi and Kennedy Shaffer picked up at-large bids. The nation’s fourth-ranked duo of Perez and Caroline Brinson garnered one of the middle seeds (5-8) as well with Christofi and Shaffer gathering an at-large bid in the 32-team doubles bracket.
 
 
Christofi, Perez and Shaffer represented Georgia in All-SEC selections as Perez and Christofi were named to the first team and Shaffer claimed second team honors. Christofi, the fifth-highest ranked freshman in the nation at No. 19, was also awarded Co-Freshmen of the Year and named to the All-SEC Freshmen Team. Perez, ranked No. 20 in ITA singles, spearheads the Bulldogs’ singles lineup on the No. 1 court with Christofi and Shaffer following in order. Christofi and Shaffer collected the most wins among the SEC on their court in conference play with nine wins apiece.
 
 
In the final match of the regular season, Perez and Brinson dispatched the then-No. 4 ranked duo in the country to finish their SEC record at 8-3. Christofi and Shaffer, ranked 37th in ITA doubles, were 13-4 overall and 7-3 in SEC play on court No. 2 which tied for the most in the conference.
 
 
Last year, Shaffer advanced to the elite eight in the singles competition, Perez made it to the round of 32 and Brinson was ousted in the first round. On the doubles side, Perez and partner Mariana Gould received an at-large bid but fell in the opening match. Perez claimed All-America honors in singles and doubles, while Gould received the accolade in doubles and Shaffer did so in singles.
 
 
The singles and doubles competitions will begin on May 24 in Athens, Ga. after the conclusion of the team championship. Georgia is seeded fifth in the team bracket and will play host to South Carolina State, North Carolina State and Oregon next weekend starting on Friday, May 13. Matchups for the individual tournaments will be announced during the team portion.
 
 
Georgia’s one senior, Brinson, was named alternate in the singles competition. She is the fourth player on the list that replaces players injured or players that are pulled out of the field.
 
 
Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for children and students, and can be purchased at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex beginning one hour before the match each day.
