The fifth-ranked Georgia women’s tennis team will close out the 2015 regular season this weekend when it travels to No. 6 Florida for a 5 p.m. match on Friday and No. 26 South Carolina for a 1 p.m. showdown on Sunday.

A win in both matches would give the Bulldogs (17-4, 10-1) at least a share of the SEC regular season title, with the Gators (18-2, 10-1) and Vanderbilt (15-5, 10-1) the only other teams in contention to lay a claim on the conference title.

The Bulldogs lost to Florida 4-1 when the two programs met in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Championships last season, but won the regular season matchup 4-2 at home. Georgia enters the match riding an eight-match winning streak while Florida is attempting to recover from a 4-1 loss at Vanderbilt in its last match. The Gators, though, are an undefeated 10-0 this season when playing at home.

South Carolina (13-8, 5-6) has been up and down this season but enters the weekend coming off a 4-0 win at Kentucky. They will play host to Tennessee on Friday before welcoming the Bulldogs to the Carolina Tennis Center on Sunday. Georgia holds a 44-15 advantage in the all-time series and has not lost to the Gamecocks since 2010.

Following this weekend’s matches the Bulldogs will make a quick return to Columbia, S.C., for the SEC Tournament from April 15-19. Seeding and match times will be announced on Monday after the conclusion of regular season play on Sunday.

Top of the Table: The Bulldogs, Gators, and Commodores are all gridlocked at the top of the SEC standings with 10-1 conference records. Georgia can claim at least a share of the SEC regular season title with wins over Florida and South Carolina. Vanderbilt plays Texas A&M and LSU on the road this weekend.

Bulldogs in the Rankings: The Bulldogs boast six singles players and two doubles teams with ITA national rankings. Senior Lauren Herring paces the group with a No. 8 singles ranking and a No. 20 doubles ranking alongside freshman teammate Ellen Perez. Perez is the Bulldogs’ second highest ranked singles player with a No. 59 ranking. Kennedy Shaffer (69), Hannah King, (82), Silvia Garcia (91), and Caroline Brinson (110) round out Georgia’s singles rankings while Garcia and Shaffer are also ranked No. 25 in doubles.

Hometown Heroines: Georgia was an unbeaten 9-0 in its regular season home matches this spring, including a 7-0 win over Mississippi State on Lauren Herring’s Senior Day.

Record Chaser: Lauren Herring has 110 career doubles victories and needs two more doubles wins to move into second place for all-time doubles wins in the Georgia record books. Three more wins in either singles or doubles will also see her move into second place in the Georgia record books for career combined singles/doubles wins. She currently has 227 combined wins.
