Junior Caroline Brinson and sophomore Ellen Perez, ranked 72nd and 29th nationally, respectively, will compete at the National Indoor Championships at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, N.Y.
The tournament will begin on Thursday Nov. 12 and will run through the weekend.
Brinson, who won the USTA/ITA Southeast Regional a weekend ago, has been strong all fall with a 14-1 record so far and an 11-match winning streak. Through her 15 singles matches, she holds a 6-1 record against ranked opponents.
Perez, who did not compete at regionals but was a semifinalist at the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships in California, also boasts six ranked victories and has an overall fall record of 9-1.
Arguably he toughest fall tournament, the Indoor Championships consist of a field made up of 32 players. The bracket consists of the four All-American semifinalists, the All-American consolation winner, 12 USTA/ITA Regional champs, the USTA/ITA Small College champion, the Oracle/ITA Masters champion, a host site wild card, an ITA wild card, a USTA wild card, and 10 at-large selections.
Familiar Foes
Over the course of the fall, the Bulldogs as a team have already played against eight of the remaining 30 players that will compete in the singles slate of the National Indoor bracket. Against the rest of the field, Perez is 3-1 with wins over Stephanie Wagner of Miami, Francesca Di Lorenzo of Ohio State and Ronit Yurovsky of Michigan. Her lone loss comes against Sinead Lohan of Miami. Brinson holds a 2-0 record against the field with wins over Wagner and Kourtney Keegan of Florida.
