The Georgia women’s tennis squad is heading to Orlando, Fla. for the Collegiate Clay Court Invitational, a singles, and doubles tournament that will be played at Disney’s Wide World of Sports and the Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress.
The tournament, hosted by Florida State, will feature competition between players from Georgia as well as 17 other schools from across the country. Selected matches during the competition will be shown live on ESPN3.
[su_spacer size=”40″] “I think it’s great for our girls, program and sport to get the exposure,” said Associate Head Coach Drake Bernstein. “I think those that tune in will be impressed with the level of tennis played at this tournament and hopefully want to watch more.”
[su_spacer size=”40″] Competition will be stiff as the women’s slate features 15 ranked singles players and eight ranked doubles pairs. A total of seven of the 18 teams participating finished the 2015 season ranked, with Georgia boasting the highest ranking at No. 5.
[su_spacer size=”40″] The Bulldogs have four players seeded in the top eight of the singles bracket: No. 29 Ellen Perez, No. 37 Kennedy Shaffer, No. 55 Hannah King and No. 58 Silvia Garcia.
[su_spacer size=”40″] The Collegiate Clay Court Invitational will be the final team tournament of the fall. Perez and junior Caroline Brinson, though, will be competing at the National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships in New York next weekend.
