ATHENS, Ga. — Senior Day for the ninth-ranked Georgia women’s tennis team featured wins from all three players honored en route to the 4-0 win over Missouri Saturday afternoon at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex.

The team recognized its three seniors before the contest: Mariana Gould, Laura Patterson and Kennedy Shaffer. Gould earned a singles win on the day, while Patterson and Shaffer paired up for a doubles win on court three.

“It’s always emotional on senior day, they’ve had such amazing careers,” Georgia head coach Jeff Wallace said. “We talked about them when we introduced them at the beginning of the match. 80 team victories for those three and over 425 singles and doubles wins combined. But their leadership has been unbelievable. Their teammates just respect and appreciate them so much. We’re having a nice celebration for them right now after the match and that’s well deserved. I also appreciate all the fans who came out and supported them today and were here for this good win over Missouri.”

The Bulldogs finished the regular season 15-5 overall, as well as 10-3 in Southeastern Conference and fourth in the SEC standings with the victory over the Tigers (11-16, 0-13). The shutout was Georgia’s third-straight and 10th of the year. In dual doubles this season, the Bulldogs took 17 of the possible 20 points.

First off the court in doubles were the seniors on court three. Inserted in the lineup for the first time this season, Patterson paired with Shaffer and won 6-2 against Missouri’s Mackenzy Middlebrooks and Ellie Wright. The Georgia duo last played in a dual match together during their sophomore campaigning, going 9-4 in the dual season. Overall in their career, they are 12-4 when playing together.

The seventh-ranked tandem of Morgan Coppoc and Elena Christofi clinched the Bulldogs’ doubles point on court one, beating Clare Raley and Marta Oliveria, 6-4, for their second clinch in a row and sixth on the season.

In singles, Georgia took five first sets to take control that it would not relinquish. Coppoc and Jokic raced through their first sets, blanking their opponents 6-0.

For the sixth-straight dual match, Coppoc finished her singles match with a win. In all, she is riding an eight-match win streak in singles. On court six, the Tulsa native defeated Mizzou freshman Marta Oliveria, 6-0, 6-1, to put Georgia up 2-0.

Next, ninth-ranked Jokic bested Serena Nash on court one, 6-0, 6-2, and closing it out moments later was Gould on court five. Finishing off Clare Raley, 6-2, 6-3, Gould moved to 22-4 on the season and 11-1 in conference play. The senior has finished with a win in the last seven dual matches and overall is on an eight-match win streak.

Next up, the Bulldogs travel to Knoxville, Tennessee, for the 2018 SEC Women’s Tennis Tournament. Georgia secured a double-bye and the No. 4 seed with the victory on Saturday. The official bracket for the tournament will be released with opponents and game times will be released Sunday evening.
