Draws were announced on Wednesday for the 2015 USTA/ITA National Indoor Championships, which will be played at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center beginning on Thursday.
[su_spacer size=”40″] The Bulldogs have two representatives in the tournament – junior Caroline Brinson and sophomore Ellen Perez, who carry the 72nd and 29th national ranks, respectively. Brinson earned her place in the NIIC with her march through the bracket of the USTA/ITA Southeast Regionals, ultimately defeating Miami’s Stephanie Wagner in the championship match. Perez punched her ticket via her performance at the All-American Championships in Los Angeles earlier in the fall where she advanced to the semifinal round.
[su_spacer size=”40″] In New York, Perez received the No. 4 seed in the tournament and will face Columbia’s Star Makarome, who is unranked. Perez enters the competition with a fall record of 10-2, including a 6-1 record against ranked opponents.
[su_spacer size=”40″] Brinson drew Vanderbilt’s Sydney Campbell, who is the No. 7 singles player in the ITA rankings. Brinson defeated No. 6 Wagner in Athens earlier in the fall, and she also holds a 6-1 record against ranked opponents. The New Orleans, La. native is a perfect 10-0 in her last ten matches and holds an overall fall record of 14-1. She holds a 2-1 record against players from Vanderbilt though she has never faced Campbell.
[su_spacer size=”40″] Brinson’s match against Campbell is slated to start at 9 a.m. and Perez is scheduled to compete at 5 p.m.
