[su_spacer size=”20″] Sophomore Ellen Perez advanced to the main draw at the ITA All-American Championships with a dominant 6-0, 6-1 win over North Carolina’s Jessie Aney.

Senior Silvia Garcia, who also played today for a spot in the main draw, fell to Lexi Borr of Boston College, ranked No. 90, 6-3, 1-6, 7-5 in a tough battle.

“We had another solid day out here,” said Associate Head Coach Drake Bernstein. “Our players have continued to respond well to the top competition. We’re excited to see what Ellen and our two doubles teams can do in the main draw.”

Perez, who is ranked No. 29 nationally, is the lone Bulldog remaining in the singles side of the tournament and will participate and singles and doubles play on Thursday.

The Perez-Gould pairing will face the duo of Julia Couter and Paula Rincon-Otero of Minnesota. Both pairs are tied for the No. 20 spot. The Garcia-Kennedy Shaffer pair, ranked No. 16, drew No. 27 Sheila Morales Hidalgo – Blaga Delic of Nevada.

“The competition gets tougher every day,” added Bernstein. “But I feel like our players are excited for the challenge and looking forward to more battles.”

In consolation play, sophomore Mariana Gould (No. 88) topped Purdue’s Tess Bernard-Feigenbaum, ranked 114th, 6-4, 6-1. Junior Caroline Brinson, ranked 72nd, defeated Oklahoma State’s Kelsey Laurente 6-2, 6-2.
