Perez defeated Kimberley Koerner of Germany 6-3, 6-0 in the qualifying draw of the Florence, S.C., tournament. The rest of the team played against players from Clemson and Princeton, taking three of five matches against their ACC foes and one against Princeton.
“Again, we learned a lot today,” said Associate Head Coach Drake Bernstein. “This weekend was great for us and gave us some specific areas to work on before ITA regionals at home next week.”
On the final day of the Windward Tournament, the Bulldogs got their crack in singles play against the Clemson Tigers. Sophomores Mariana Gould and Laura Patterson each scored decisive victories, with Gould taking a 6-2, 6-2 match over Theresa Piontek and Patterson defeating Jenny Moinard 6-1, 6-2. Junior Caroline Brinson also was stellar on the tournament’s final day, winning 6-0, 6-1.
Sophomore Kennedy Shaffer also claimed a lopsided win, shutting out Emily Hahn of Princeton in two sets for a 6-0, 6-0 win.
“Each of our players have one or two things that they would like to do better next time out,” added Bernstein. “We are looking forward to seeing that product in Athens next week.”
