Four UGA women’s tennis players are set to begin competing in the individual portion of the NCAA Championships at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex. The women’s singles championships kick off Wednesday, while the doubles championships commence Thursday. Both coincide with the men’s bracket.

 
Ellen Perez is the Bulldogs’ top-seeded singles player in the 9-16 group, while Elena Christofi and Kennedy Shaffer received at-large bids. In the doubles bracket, Caroline Brinson joins the aforementioned Bulldogs’ trio in the doubles championships.
 
 
Perez, ranked 12th in ITA singles, will play Kimmy Guerin, a senior from Wake Forest, at 11 a.m. Guerin, an ACC All-Second Team recipient, lost in the first round last year in her first appearance in the NCAA singles tournament. As a sophomore, Perez lost to Katarina Adamovic of Oklahoma State who advanced to the quarterfinals.
 
 
Christofi and Shaffer are the first Bulldogs in action at 9 a.m. Christofi battles senior Lauren Marker of Arizona, while Shaffer takes on North Carolina’s Sara Daavettila. Shaffer, a junior from Rossford, Ohio, reached the quarterfinals last year in her first NCAA singles championships. The ITA Southeast Rookie of the Year, Christofi, makes her career debut in the NCAA singles championships.
 
 
Marker, a two-time All Pac-12 First Teamer, lost in the first round last year and is currently ranked 39th in ITA singles. Daavettila captured the ITA Rookie of the Year award for the Carolina region and sits at 18th in ITA singles rankings, two spots ahead of Christofi.
 
 
Brinson and Perez form the nation’s third-ranked duo, which landed garnered a spot in the 5-8 seed group. Up first for Brinson/Perez are Francesca Di Lorenzo and Miho Kowase of Ohio State. The 38th-ranked tandem of Christofi and Shaffer picked up an at-large bid and will face fourth-seed Jessie Aney and Hayley Carter of UNC. This marks Perez’s third NCAA doubles championship appearance.
