The sixth-ranked Georgia women’s tennis team begin the ITA National Team Indoor Championships against 10th-ranked Duke today at 6:30 p.m. ET on the campus of Yale University.
 
The National Team Indoors consists of the 15 ITA Kick-Off Weekend winning teams and the host school, Yale. The top eight schools received seeds with the Bulldogs (3-0) garnering the fifth seed in the top half of the bracket.
 
 
Florida, the No. 1 team in the country, received the top seed followed by North Carolina, Oklahoma State, Pepperdine, Georgia, Ohio State, California and Vanderbilt. The rest of the field is rounded out by Duke, Georgia Tech, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Michigan, Auburn, Ole Miss and Yale. The assembly of teams is filled with high competition as 15 of them are ranked in the ITA top-25 including nine of the top-10 squads. Live streaming will be available on a subscription basis on FloTennis.
 
 
“This season has been set up like this so it is something to get used to,” Georgia head coach Jeff Wallace said about the competition. “I think other teams in the country are in similar situations. Everybody knows that now is the time to really get out there and put all the things that you have been working on into play. I think the team is ready for that. And it’s fun, it’s a huge opportunity and it’s going to be great tennis. We just need to play hard as a team and be competitive.”
 
 
The Intercollegiate Tennis Association doesn’t put out new team rankings before the National Team Indoors but they did release new individual and doubles rankings, which featured a new Bulldog. Freshman Marta Gonzalez made her ITA singles rankings debut coming in at No. 76. The Madrid, Spain product showcases an 11-2 record, 1-0 in dual play. Fellow freshman Elena Christofi moved up five spots to the No. 18 slot becoming now the third-highest ranked freshman in the nation. Rounding out the Georgia players in the rankings are Caroline Brinson (#34), Kennedy Shaffer (#39) and the duo of Christofi/Shaffer (#27).
 
 
The Blue Devils (4-0) defeated William & Mary along with Northwestern in the ITA Kick-Off Weekend to earn their ticket to New Haven. Freshman Meible Chi, ranked No. 21, heads Duke with a 19-6 singles record, 4-0 in duals action. Returning All-Atlantic Coast Conference second teamers Chalena Scholl (#37) and Kaitlyn McCarthy (#125) follow with 13 and eight wins, respectively, with each owning a 3-0 duals record. In doubles, Chi and McCarthy sport a 3-0 record and a No. 25 ranking on the No. 1 court. Also checking in on the doubles radar is Ellyse Hamlin and Samantha Harris at No. 60. Duke contains seven returners and one newcomer from last year’s NCAA Tournament team that made it to the second round.
 
 
The United States Tennis Association debuted its inaugural College Tennis Top 25 rankings on February 8th with Georgia checking in at No. 7. The USTA rankings is a new weekly poll of a panel of college tennis experts that will be released each Wednesday throughout the course of the NCAA Division I college season. Duke received the No. 11 spot.
