The University of Georgia women’s tennis team is ranked fourth in the nation in the 2018 Intercollegiate Tennis Association women’s rankings, it was announced on Wednesday.

 

The Bulldogs share the top-5 with Stanford University (1), Vanderbilt University (2), the University of Florida (3) and North Carolina (5). Georgia is one of nine Southeastern Conference teams, the most of any conference, to be featured on the list of 25.

The Bulldogs finished the 2017 season ranked sixth nationally, collecting a 19-6 record in their 31st consecutive NCAA Championships appearance under 33-year Georgia head coach Jeff Wallace.

Georgia’s top returner is sophomore Elena Christofi, the Bulldogs’ highest ranked student-athlete at No. 10 in singles and No. 34 in doubles with freshman Morgan Coppoc. In 2017, the ITA Scholar-Athlete earned All-America honors with a team-leading 29-7 singles record and 23-12 doubles clip.

Georgia also brought in the nation’s top-rated recruiting class, according to Tennis Recruiting.net, featuring freshmen Annette Goulak, Katarina Jokic, Vivian Wolff and Coppoc. Jokic won the ITA Southeast Regional title at the end of October and topped six ranked opponents in the fall, including Miami’s 11th-ranked Estela Perez-Somarriba.

Georgia wrapped up the fall tournament season in November. The Bulldogs return to action this weekend in a two-day round-robin event with Georgia State on Saturday and Sunday at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex. Singles matches will begin at 10 am with doubles to follow.
