The third-ranked Georgia women’s tennis team (6-3) will battle in-state rival No. 23 Georgia Tech (3-2) at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex on Saturday at 2 p.m.

The Georgia vs. Georgia Tech match will be the Bulldogs’ first home event since hosting the ITA Kick-Off Weekend back in January. In its last match on the road, Georgia fell 4-1 to North Carolina in the final of the ITA National Team Indoor Championships.

As a result of advancing to the final, the Bulldogs shot up in both the team and individual rankings and now feature six singles players and two doubles duos with national marks. Senior Lauren Herring headlines the group with a No. 12 ranking in singles while junior Silvia Garcia and freshman Kennedy Shaffer are the nation’s No. 13 ranked doubles tandem.

On the other side, the Yellow Jackets are yet to post back-to-back wins through through five matches this spring but are coming off a victory against No. 59 USF. Their highest ranked players are No. 54 Paige Hourigan and No. 68 Johnisse Renaud, both of whom are freshmen.

Georgia faced Georgia Tech in Atlanta last season and came away on the right side of a 7-0 sweep. The Bulldogs hold a 22-4 advantage in the all-time series and haven’t lost to their in-state rival since 2010.
