ATHENS, Ga. – The eighth-ranked Georgia Bulldog women’s tennis team earned the No. 7 seed and has been selected as one of 16 hosts for the first and second rounds of the NCAA Championships, it was announced Tuesday.
 
 
The Bulldogs will take on Georgia State in the first round on Friday, May 11 at 3 p.m., while Wake Forest will face Arizona State earlier in the day at 12 p.m. The winner of the two matches will meet on Saturday, May 12, at 3 p.m.
 
 
“It’s always an honor to play at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex,” Georgia head coach Jeff Wallace said. “We’re going to try to take advantage of that opportunity. We’ve got some great teams coming here, and they’re going to be ready too, so it should be a great region.
 
 
Georgia will appear in its 32nd consecutive NCAA Tournament. 2018 marks the eighth-straight year the Bulldogs will host the first and second rounds, and the 17th of the past 20 years since the field expanded from 16 to 64.
 
 
“We are looking forward to playing at home and in front of our fans,” said Georgia sophomore Marta Gonzalez. “We played some members of the Georgia State team in the fall last year so we know a little about them. Now, we’re just focused on finishing school with final exams and getting our practices in before the tournament starts.”
 
 
Georgia finished the 2017-18 season at 15-6, with the only dropped matches coming against teams ranked ahead of the Bulldogs. ​The Bulldogs are an undefeated 16-0 against in-state competitor Georgia State. Against potential opponents Arizona State and Wake Forest, Georgia is 3-1 and 6-3, respectively.
 
 
Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for children and students and can be purchased at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex one hour before the match each day.
