The nation’s top-ranked women’s tennis team, the Georgia Bulldogs, set out Thursday for its two-match Southeastern Conference weekend trip to Alabama.

First serve between Georgia (15-0, 7-0 SEC) and No. 39 Alabama (14-7, 3-4 SEC) is scheduled for Friday at 6 p.m. ET. The Bulldogs and the No. 49 Auburn Tigers (13-9, 0-7 SEC) will start at 1 p.m. ET on Sunday. The two-match road trip is the first of two back-to-back before Georgia wraps up its regular season schedule at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex.

“We just have to keep bringing it,” Georgia head coach Jeff Wallace said. “The model that we have done things this year has been good, so we don’t need to reinvent the wheel, but continue to do it. It is important for us to keep working hard in practice and really look forward to competing.”

Freshman Meg Kowalski and sophomore Vivian Wolff went 2-0 in singles, while Wolff also went 2-0 in doubles last weekend to propel Georgia’s sweep of the SEC Mississippi schools. Georgia extended its winning streak to 15 matches – one short of its longest streak in 10 years.

Alabama is riding a two-match win streak and will be well rested as it had only one match last weekend. Senior Andie Daniell, ranked No. 69, contains a team-high 19 singles wins for the Crimson Tide and is projected to square off with Georgia’s top-ranked Katarina Jokic on court one. It serves as a rematch from last season when Jokic used a straight-set win to clinch Georgia’s 4-0 victory. Another intriguing matchup will be the second doubles court between UA’s best duo of Ann Selim and Kimbereley Gintrand who have a 16-4 record against Georgia’s undefeated two of Elena Christofi and Wolff at 8-0.

On Friday, Auburn faces No. 18 Tennessee, before Georgia comes into town for the Sunday meeting. The Tigers have yet to notch their first conference win, but defeated the Crimson Tide prior to conference play and got another big win, edging then-No. 13 Georgia Tech in the ITA Kick-Off Weekend. Sophomore Jaeda Daniel, ranked No. 91, holds a team-best record of 14-10 and will go against Jokic on the first singles court. Daniel, a reigning All-SEC First Team recipient, scored the Tigers’ sole point in last year’s 4-1 Georgia win.

“Our goal is to have two good road trips, but you have to look at it one thing at a time,” Wallace added. “You don’t want to look ahead too much, because you will slip up on what you are immediately doing, so I think it is important for us to look forward to this next match.”
