The UGA women’s tennis program announced Friday the signing of Meg Kowalski to a national letter of intent to attend UGA and compete with the Bulldogs next season.

 

A native of La Grange, Ill., she is a Blue Chip recruit, according to tennisrecruiting.net and has been ranked among the nation’s top 25 juniors for the past four years. She has been ranked as high as No. 22 this year. Kowalski is the daughter of Mattie and Chris Kowalski.

“We’re excited to welcome Meg to Georgia and the Bulldog family,” said Georgia head coach Jeff Wallace. “She is an outstanding player and an amazing young lady who will fit right in with our program. We look forward to having her on campus, and with her work ethic, she will enjoy success in the classroom and on the court.”­

Currently, Kowalski trains at the Smith Stearns Academy in Hilton Head, S.C. after growing up in the Chicago area and attending Lyons Township High School. As a freshman for the Lions, she was 29-2 and placed fourth in the state in helping them to a sectional title and a third-place finish in the state playoffs. Since 2015, she has trained at Smith Stearns under the direction of B.J. Stearns.

In 2015, she reached the Girls 16 singles final and doubles semifinal of the Eddie Herr ITF Championships. Kowalski won the 2016 doubles titles and reached the singles semifinals at the Delray Beach (Florida)­ and Copa Sultana-Mayagues (Puerto Rico) ITF events. She claimed the doubles titles at those events this year and reached the finals of $15K ITF Circuit tournament in Hilton Head. Also, she captured the 2017 National Selection singles title.
