The fourth-ranked Georgia women’s tennis team were upset by No. 12 Auburn, 4-1, in the SEC Tournament quarterfinals on Friday.

 
 
The Bulldogs (17-5, 11-2) dropped the doubles point and fell into an early hole in singles that proved to large to overcome. Junior Ellen Perez collected the only point with a win on court No. 1 singles.
 
 
“We have lost doubles points this year and you always want to come back with strong singles play to change the complexion of the match,” Georgia head coach Jeff Wallace said. “I thought we had chances in the doubles, but we made some critical errors near the end of the point. We just have to play a little bit of a higher level in some critical moments of sets. It is certainly nothing to take away from Auburn, they played a great match against us today.”
 
 
In singles, Perez, ranked 21st, defeated No. 34 Andie Dikosavljevic at court one to notch the match at 1-all. She rallied from down 2-3 in the first set to win 6-4 and then cruised in the second set 6-1.
 
 
“In singles, Ellen [Perez] played a really good match on the No. 1 court and got a “W” today,” Wallace said.
 
 
The Tigers (23-9, 5-8) then captured victories on courts three, four and six to seal the victory and advance to the semifinals. At the point of clinch, Elena Christofi was leading in the third set and Marta Gonzalez was on the verge of winning her match in the second set.
 
 
“I thought [Elena] Christofi got off to a great start in set one, split the second and was looking good in the third,” Wallace added. “Marta [Gonzalez] on the No. 5 court was about to close her match out, she played well.”
 
 
In doubles, Elena Christofi and Kennedy Shaffer, ranked 34th in ITA doubles, defeated Andie Dikosavlejic and Alannah Griffin 6-2 at No. 2 to notch it at 1-all shortly after Bulldogs dropped the No. 3 match. The deciding match came on court one where Auburn outlasted Georgia for the 1-0 lead.

The first and second round of the NCAA Tournament is scheduled for May 13-15th with the site to be determined. The NCAA Selection Show is slotted for May 2 at 5:30 p.m.
