The Georgia women’s tennis team will open its fall tournament season here Friday with a round-robin event against student-athletes from Clemson, Missouri and Vanderbilt.
 
 
The tournament was originally scheduled to be in Puerto Rico as part of the Puerto Rico Fall Classic, however due to the recent hurricanes impacting the Caribbean, Georgia will serve as host.
 
 
The three-day fall tournament will consist of singles and doubles matches. The individual results count for the student-athletes but no team score will be kept. Admission is free for all matches at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex.
 
 
Action begins Friday at 10 a.m. Georgia student-athletes will play doubles at 1:30 p.m. and singles at 2:30 p.m. On Saturday, Georgia will hit the courts at 10 a.m. for doubles and then singles at 11 a.m. and again at 2 p.m. On Sunday, Georgia student-athletes will play doubles at 10 a.m. with additional matches scheduled for 11 a.m.
 
 
Jeff Wallace, who enters his 33rd season at the helm, coaches the Bulldogs. They went 19-6 last season and finished the year ranked No. 6 nationally. Georgia brought in the nation’s top-rated recruiting class according to Tennis Recruiting.net. The class features four freshmen in Morgan Coppoc, Annette Goulak, Katarina Jokic and Vivian Wolff.
 
 
Georgia’s highest ranked returning student-athlete is sophomore Elena Christofi. In the preseason ITA rankings, Christofi is No. 10 in singles and No. 34 in doubles with Coppoc. Sophomore Marta Gonzalez is ranked No. 105 in singles. Christofi, an ITA Scholar-Athlete, earned All-America honors last year after leading the Bulldogs with a 29-7 singles record and 23-12 in doubles.
