The No. 7 Georgia women’s tennis team went head to head against No. 1 North Carolina and was defeated 4-3 on Saturday, Jan. 30 at the Lindsey Hopkins Indoor Courts.

In doubles, No. 10 Katarina Jokic and Ania Hertel defeated No. 3 Alexa Graham and Sara Daavettila 6-2 on court one. No. 37 Morgan Coppoc and Elena Christofi clinched the doubles point with a 6-4 win over No. 15 Cameron Morra and Fiona Crawley on court two. Meg Kowalski and Lea Ma went unfinished on court three against Reilly Tran and Alle Sanford.

In singles, Georgia would find themselves down after No. 31 Ma was defeated by No. 4 Daavettila 6-0, 6-3 on court two and Coppoc fell to No. 120 Crawley 6-1, 7-5 on court four.

It was No. 60 Kowalski who would upset No. 6 Cameron Morra 6-3, 7-6(3) to tie the team score at two apiece. No. 16 Jokic went the distance with No. 3 Graham upsetting her 7-6, 4-6, 6-3. Hertel fell to Reily Tran 6-4, 6-2 on court six to knot the match back up at three. Coming down to the third set, Christofi, came down to a 7-5 tie breaker loss that gave North Carolina the 4-3 win.

Bulldogs will be back in action on Feb. 7 facing off against No. 8 Florida State at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex with first serve set for 11 a.m.
