WTEN: Dawgs Meet Another Top 10 Opponent Tomorrow
Katarina Jokic

The No. 7 Georgia women’s tennis team is set to host No. 8 Florida State on Sunday, Feb. 7 at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex.

This will be the second of three straight top-10 matchups for the Bulldogs that began with No. 1 North Carolina and will conclude with No. 6 Georgia Tech on Feb. 11, the toughest stretch the Bulldogs have faced during the regular season since facing off against three straight top-10 SEC opponents in 2001.

Florida State comes to Athens 3-0 on the season with wins over South Florida and No. 21 Florida. The Seminoles have three ranked singles in No. 27 Giulia Pairone, No. 92 Nandini Das and No. 106 Victoria Allen. In doubles, Florida State bolsters another top-10 duo in No. 7 Victoria Allen and Petra Hule. Their other ranked duo of Emmanuel Salas and Giulia Pairone come in ranked tied for No. 50. The last dual matchup came in 2014, but the Bulldogs faced off against Florida State in a hidden dual format to kick off the season, picking up 20 singles and doubles wins against the Seminoles and Clemson.

Georgia is coming off a 4-3 loss to No. 1 North Carolina that came down to a final set tie breaker with the Bulldogs ultimately losing by two points. In that match, in doubles, the No. 10 duo of Katarina Jokic and Ania Hertel upset No. 3 Alexa Graham and Sara Daavettila 6-2, the best win the duo have had as a duo to date. No. 37 Morgan Coppoc and Elena Christofi also upset No. 15 Cameron Morra and Fiona Crawley 6-4. In singles, No. 16 Jokic completed another upset of No. 3 Graham 7-6(5), 4-6, 6-3 and No. 60 Meg Kowalski took down No. 6 Morra 6-3, 7-6(3) to stay undefeated on the season as well as being her biggest win of her career.

Jokic was named SEC Player of the Week for the second time in her career for her efforts against the Tar Heels. It was the first SEC Player of the Week award for the Bulldogs since Vivian Wolff won the award in 2019. The last Bulldog to win a weekly SEC award was Hertel who took home Freshman of the Week honors before the season was canceled due to the COVID-19 Pandemic.

Spectator attendance will be limited to guests of the respective team members via pass list. No other fans will be allowed inside the Dan Magill Tennis Complex during indoor matches. Approved fans on the pass list should remain socially distant throughout the stadium.
