The No. 3 Georgia women’s tennis team improved to 4-0 after defeating Clemson Saturday afternoon 7-0 at the Lindsey Hopkins Indoor Courts.
In doubles, Katarina Jokic and Anna Hertel once again breezed through their set making quick work of No. 56 Eleni Louka and Sydney Riley 6-0. Senior Elena Christofi and sophomore Meg Kowalski dominated on court three, defeating Ali Despain and Laura Marti 6-2 to clinch to doubles point for the Bulldogs. Morgan Coppoc and Lea Ma went unfinished on court two, up 4-3.
In singles, No. 17 Jokic defeated Tate Schroeder 6-3, 6-1 to lengthen the Bulldog lead. No. 46 Marta Gonzalez took down Mackenzy Middlebrooks 6-1, 6-2 on court two. Hertel clinched her second straight match for Georgia defeating Eleni Louka 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 on court three. No. 56 Kowalski made quick work of Zaina Nait Omar 6-1, 6-0. No. 83 Coppoc played a three-set thriller falling in the second set in the tiebreaker but bouncing back to defeat Despain 6-3, 6-7 (4-7), 6-3. Chirstofi capped off the night with an easy win on court five defeating Lana Sipek 6-1, 6-1.
Georgia will begin preparations for their return to the ITA National Indoor Tournament in Chicago, Ill. The Bulldogs will be back at home on Saturday, Feb. 29 to begin conference play against Tennessee at Noon.
