WTENNIS: Eight Dawgs Earn Final ITA Ranking

Eight members of the University of Georgia women’s tennis team earned a spot in the final Oracle/Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) national rankings that were released Thursday.

Senior Katrina Jokic, a six-time All-American and two-time Honda Award finalist, led the Bulldog contingent with a No. 5 ranking in singles and No. 4 in doubles with freshman Ariana Arseneault. Earlier in the season, Jokic was paired with sophomore Ania Hertel, and they ended the year with a No. 56 ranking.

 

 

 

 

Junior Meg Kowalski, who earned All-America honors this season after reaching the round of 16 at the NCAA Singles Championships, was the next highest-ranked Bulldog at No. 25. She was followed by the SEC Newcomer of the Year in sophomore Lea Ma at No. 30, graduate Marta Gonzalez at No. 78 and then senior Morgan Coppoc at No. 92. Also in doubles, Coppoc and graduate Elena Christofi concluded the year at No. 41.

Georgia head coach Jeff Wallace, who recently completed his 36th season, guided the team to its 31st overall top 10 finish in the rankings including 17th time in the top five. The Bulldogs went 23-2 with a No. 4 final ranking. Georgia captured the SEC regular-season and tournament titles and then advanced to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Championships. The Bulldogs went undefeated in conference play, going 13-0 in the regular season, and swept to the tournament title by posting three straight shutouts.
