The No. 3 Georgia women’s tennis team will continue their campaign through the NCAA Tournament with the round of 16 taking on No. 13 Virginia today at 10 a.m. at the USTA National Campus.
The Cavaliers sport a 16-6 record and a 9-4 ACC record. In the polls, Virginia came in ranked No. 13 in the ITA rankings and No. 10 in the USTA rankings.
The Cavaliers earned a No. 14 seed and defeated NIU (4-0) and Tennessee (4-2) on their way to Orlando.
Virginia finished fifth in the ACC behind Duke, NC State, Florida State and North Carolina. Freshman Emma Navarro was named ACC Freshman of the Year, as well as First Team All-ACC honors. Natasha Subhash also received First Team honors and Rosie Johnson was named Third Team All-SEC.
In singles, Navarro comes in at No. 3 and Subhash right behind her at No. 9. Johnson rounds out the trio at No. 90. In doubles, Sofia Munera and Subhash are ranked No. 17, while Johnson and Navarro are No. 21. Vivian Glozman and Amber O’Dell round out the rankings at No. 68.
The last time these two squads faced off was at the ITA National Indoor Tournament in Chicago in 2019 with Georgia defeating Virginia 4-2.
Both the Georgia men’s and women’s teams will advance to the round of 16 in Orlando and is one of seven schools to feature both men’s and women’s programs; Texas, USC, North Carolina, Texas A&M, Virginia and Ohio State.
The Bulldogs played host to Austin Peay, Wake Forest and Furman in a regional that featured three conference champions. Georgia took down Austin Peay 4-0 and then Wake Forest 4-1, punching their ticket to Orlando.
