The No. 5 Georgia women’s tennis team (2-1) is set to take on its third top-10 opponent in as many matches on Thursday, Feb. 11 as No. 9 Georgia Tech (7-2) comes to the Dan Magill Tennis Complex with first serve set for 3 p.m.
 
The last time the Bulldogs went up against three straight to-10 opponents in the regular season was the 2001 season where Georgia went up against No. 3 Florida, No. 4 Tennessee and No. 6 Vanderbilt.
 
The Bulldogs have a 26-6 overall record against the in-state rival Yellow Jackets with the last matchup coming in 2020 in Atlanta where the Bulldogs won 4-1 thanks to a third-set comeback clinch by freshman Ania Hertel. Since 2010, this will be the twelfth straight matchup where both teams are ranked in the top-25 and will be only the sixth matchup where both teams are ranked in the top-10. The last time the two squads faced off as top-10 teams, was during the 2008-09 season with the No. 3 Bulldogs coming out on top over the No. 6 Yellow Jackets, 6-1.
 
Georgia Tech comes to Athens with a 7-2 record with wins over South Carolina, Duke and Auburn. The Yellow Jackets qualified for the National Indoor Tournament in Stillwater, Okla. where they went 1-2, losing to No. 5 Pepperdine and No. 9 Ohio State. Their lone win came against No. 10 Oklahoma State, 4-3. The Yellow Jackets have three ranked singles players in Kenya Jones, No. 13, Victoria Flores, No. 56, and Gia Cohen, No. 123. In doubles, the Yellow Jackets only have one ranked duo in No. 5 Jones and Flores.
 
Last time out, the Bulldogs defeated No. 8 Florida State in a 4-3 thriller that saw the match come down to the third set of a top-30 singles matchup between No. 16 Katarina Jokic and No. 27 Giulia Parione with Jokic coming out on top 6-4, 6-7(3), 6-2.
 
Jokic was named SEC Player of the Week for the second time this season after being awarded the same honors the previous week. The last Bulldog to earn multiple weekly honors in one season was Hertel who won SEC Freshman of the Week twice during the 2019-20 season.
 
The ITA announced Wednesday morning new rankings before the matchup, with the Bulldogs coming in at No. 5. The SEC captured five spots in the top-25 with Vanderbilt coming in at No. 15, Tennessee at No. 21, Florida at No. 22 and Texas A&M coming in at No. 24.
 
Weather permitting, Thursday’s match will signal the first outdoor match of the 2021 season. While still limited, matches will be open to the general public — 275 fans are welcome to attend on a first-come, first-serve basis. Available seating will be marked in the grandstands, as well as the grass berm behind the lower courts. Fan seating will not be available in the Men’s and Women’s team clubhouse or in the playing level area adjacent to Court 3.
 
To enter the Dan Magill Tennis Complex, fans are encouraged to enter through the main entrance in front of the men’s tennis clubhouse. Masks are required at all times while moving throughout the facility. However, those in attendance may remove their masks once socially distanced in their seats.
