Lourdes Carle became the second Bulldog in as many weeks to earn the Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week honor, the league office announced Wednesday at noon. 
 
Carle, out of Daireaux, Argentina, helped the No. 2-ranked Georgia women’s tennis team defeat then-No. 34 Florida and No. 7 South Carolina this past weekend by winning both of her singles matches against ranked opponents. In doing so, she stretched her win streak to five matches and improved to 14-5 overall, including 9-3 in duals and 4-0 in SEC play.

Against the Gators on Friday, Carle, ranked No. 93 in ITA’s latest singles rankings, defeated then-No. 52 Victoria Emma, a sophomore, on court three, 6-4, 6-3, to make it a 3-1 UGA lead. Georgia went on to defeat Florida for the third year in a row.
 
On Sunday versus the Gamecocks, Carle got the Bulldogs on the board to tie it at 1-all. She was first off the court in singles, blowing by then-No. 99 Mia Horvit on court three, 6-2, 6-1. Heading into the contest, Horvit, a junior, was 15-4 overall, including 8-2 in dual play and 3-0 in the conference. Horvit is a two-time All-SEC Second Team recipient and an ITA Singles All-American. 
 
The Sunday team win put Georgia alone atop of the SEC standings with a 5-0 conference mark to go along with its 13-0 overall record. 

The weekly award is the eighth edition this season and the third honor bestowed upon Bulldog freshmen. This marked Carle’s first. Meg Kowalski, of Chicago, earned the accolade last week and in week three following the ITA National Team Indoor Championships.

 
The Bulldogs play host to No. 48 Ole Miss Friday at 5 p.m., and No. 50 Mississippi State Sunday at 1 p.m. at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex.
