Georgia’s Meg Kowalski was named the 2019 Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Year among the All-SEC awards that featured a conference-best six Bulldogs, announced by the league office Wednesday afternoon. 

Not only are the six Georgia contingents the most this year, but also it is the second year in a row that the Bulldogs have led the conference in All-SEC honors with six student-athletes. Kowalski, of Chicago, makes it the third-straight year that the SEC FOY award resides in Athens, joining sophomore Katarina Jokic and junior Elena Christofi in the honor.

Landing on First Team All-SEC was Jokic, junior Marta Gonzalez and sophomore Vivian Wolff, while Second Team All-SEC consisted of freshman Lourdes Carle and Christofi. Additionally, Carle and Kowalski were featured on the eight-member All-Freshman SEC team.

Kowalski, ranked No. 116 in ITA singles, is 20-1 overall to start her collegiate career and is 16-1 this dual season, having gone a perfect 8-0 in SEC play. Doubles-wise, Kowalski pairs with Gonzalez on the No. 3 court, putting together a 9-3 SEC record. In the dual season, the duo are 11-4. Kowalski is the seventh Bulldog in program history to earn SEC FOY.

Jokic picked up her second consecutive First Team All-SEC honor. The Novi, Grad Bosnia native is ranked No. 1 in ITA singles and has been for the past seven polls. She boasts a 19-4 record with 14 of those wins against nationally ranked foes.

Gonzalez, ranked No. 25 in singles, became a two-time All-SEC recipient as she was named to the second team in her sophomore season. The Madrid, Spain product is 21-11 overall in singles and has 14 doubles wins, including the 11 with Kowalski on court three.

Obtaining her first collegiate honor, Wolff has compiled a remarkable season, leading the team in wins. Wolff, ranked No. 66, is 30-3 in singles, including 22 in dual play and a perfect 12-0 against SEC opponents. On the doubles court, she is 20-6 with a 14-0 dual mark with Christofi. In the SEC Tournament, she went 3-0 in singles and 1-0 in doubles to be named to the All-Tournament team.

Christofi tallied her third career All-SEC honor with the Second Team nod. She flaunts an 18-5 singles record and trails her doubles partner, Wolff, in total doubles wins by one. Christofi joined Wolff on the SEC All-Tournament team, going 3-0 in singles and 1-0 in doubles.

Carle, of Daireaux, Argentina, landed on Second Team All-SEC and All-Freshman Team after putting together a 20-6 singles record, including 15 duals wins on court three. Within the conference, Carle, ranked No. 69, went unbeaten, 9-0, like Kowalski and Christofi. Carle joined Jokic on the first doubles court, racking up nine wins during the dual season. The 30th-ranked tandem went 3-0 during the SEC Tournament with all three wins representing their highest-ranked victories together.
