The No. 3 Georgia women’s tennis team is slated to finish its 2021 spring regular season with two final home matches.
The 14-1 Bulldogs will face off against Alabama on Thursday, April 8 at 5 p.m. and No. 17 Auburn on Saturday, April 10 at 12 p.m. Georgia can outright win the SEC regular-season title with a win in either of its remaining matches and Saturday’s match will serve as senior day recognizing graduate Elena Christofi, graduate Marta Gonzalez, and senior Katarina Jokic.
The Crimson Tide come to Athens with a 12-9 overall record and are 3-8 in conference play. They have two ranked singles players in Isabella Harvison at No. 26 and Loudmilla Bencheikh at No. 94 and in doubles, Bencheikh and Moka Ita are ranked No. 49. The Bulldogs are 44-4 all-time against Alabama with the latest matchup coming in 2019 with a 4-0 win for Georgia.
The Tigers will travel to Athens with a 12-5 overall record and are 7-4 in SEC play. They sport an ITA ranking of No. 17 and a USTA ranking of No. 23. Selin Ovunc comes in at No. 62 and Yu Chen at No. 100 for ranked Tigers and in doubles, Ovunc and Taylor Russo are ranked in the top-15 at No. 13. Georgia leads the all-time series 56-7 with the last matchup coming in 2019 and a 4-0 Bulldog win.
In the latest rankings, the Bulldogs remained at No. 3 in the ITA and USTA rankings. The ITA released a new Coaches Poll on Wednesday, April 7 as well where Georgia debuted at No. 3.
