The Georgia women’s tennis team signs Mell Reasco from Ecuador and Guillermina Grant from Uruguay to the 2021 signing class.
“We are extremely excited about signing Mell and Guillermina,” associate head coach Drake Bernstein said. “They have both had success on the international level playing in all four grand slams between the two of them, but we believe that their best tennis is still in front of them. We are all eager to welcome them to Athens and get to work.”
Reasco held a career high ranking of 20 in the ITF World Junior Rankings and has played in the US Open, French Open and Wimbledon Junior Championships. Currently, she ranks at No. 995 in the WTA rankings and has notched two wins over top-12 junior players in the world. She was crowned the winner of Grade 2 in Prato, Italy, winner in doubles of Grade 1 in Cuenca, Ecuador and winner of Grade B1 in Sao Paolo, Ecuador. She also represented Ecuador in Fed Cup Competition.
Grant reached a career high rank of 31 in the ITF World Junior Rankings and has seen action in the Australian Open and French Open Junior Championships. She made the semifinals of the French Open doubles, defeating the No. 1 seed in the process. Grant was a quarterfinalist of the Eddier Herr ITF and winner in doubles of Grade A in Criciuma, Brazil and Grade A in Merida, Mexico. She represented Uruguay in Fed Cup Competition.
“While their rankings and accomplishments are impressive, we are most excited about the energy and character that they will bring to our team,” Bernstein added.
The duo is currently two of the top three ranked South Americans in the ITF junior world rankings.
