The No. 3 Georgia women’s tennis team will continue conference play with two matches at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex beginning with No. 27 Florida on Friday, March 5 with first serve set for 4 p.m. and on Sunday, March 7 against No. 35 South Carolina with first serve set for 1 p.m.
The Gators come to Athens with a ranking of 27 after the ITA expanding the rankings to 50 this past week, a 5-4 overall record and a 3-1 conference record with wins over No. 19 LSU and No. 22 Texas A&M. Florida has two ranked singles players with McCartney Kessler coming in at No. 32 and Layne Sleeth coming in at No. 65. In doubles, Kessler and Marlee Zein are the lone Gators duo ranked, coming in at No. 26. Florida leads the all-time series 49-18.
The Gamecocks come to Athens with a ranking of 35 after the ITA expanding the rankings to 50 this past week, a 4-7 overall ranking and a 1-3 conference ranking with their lone conference win coming against Alabama. In singles, South Carolina has three ranked players with Megan Davies leading the way at No. 30, Mia Horvit, No. 30 and Emma Shelton, No. 93. In doubles, South Carolina has two duos ranked with Shelton and Silvia Chinellato ranked at No. 20 and Horvit and Davies at No. 29. Georgia leads the all-time series 48-17.
Last time out, the Bulldogs competed in their first away matches of the season traveling to Mississippi and completing two 4-0 sweeps of Ole Miss and Mississippi State. Senior Katarina Jokic is now seven singles wins away from reaching 100 career singles wins. Graduate Elena Christofi is currently five doubles wins away from crossing the same threshold but for career doubles wins.
The Bulldogs stayed at No. 3 in this week’s ITA rankings continuing their streak of 59 straight weeks ranked in the top-10. The SEC has seven teams ranked in the top-25, the most of any conference.
While still limited, outdoor matches will be open to the general public— 275 fans are welcome to attend on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Available seating will be marked in the grandstands, as well as the grass berm behind the lower courts. Fan seating will not be available in the men’s and women’s team clubhouses or in the playing level area adjacent to Court 3.
To enter the Dan Magill Tennis Complex, fans are encouraged to enter through the main entrance in front of the men’s tennis club house. Masks are required at all times while moving throughout the facility. However, those in attendance may remove their masks once socially distanced in their seats.
Fans will not be permitted to attend indoor matches.
