ATHENS, Ga. — Georgia’s Yante Maten has been selected to play in Reese’s College All-Star Game this Friday in San Antonio, Texas, the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) announced on Tuesday.
The game will be played at 4:45 pm ET in the Alamodome as part of Reese’s Final Four Friday and will be televised live on CBS Sports Network.
Maten recently completed his senior season with the Bulldogs following a standout campaign. He became Georgia’s third SEC Player of the Year honoree and just the sixth Bulldog – and first in more than a quarter-century – to be a three-time All-SEC selection. Maten also was tabbed co-Georgia Men’s College Player of the Year by the Atlanta Tipoff Club.
Maten led the SEC in both scoring (19.3 points per game) and double-doubles (14). He reached double figures in points in 31 of 33 games, with 17 20-point outings and a season-high 30 points against Temple.
Among Georgia’s career statistical leaders, Maten finished No. 2 in points (1,877), No. 4 in rebounds (885) and No. 3 in blocked shots (196).
Maten is the third Bulldog in the last decade to be chosen to participate in the all-star contest. J.J. Frazier played in last year’s game, and Sundiata Gaines took part in 2008. Frazier scored 15 points, grabbed seven rebounds, dished five assists and collected two steals for the East team, which defeated the West 121-90. Gaines had 18 points, eight rebounds, five assists and two steals in 29 minutes of action in his all-star outing. It’s
